VideoRay today released for the public information on its performance at the recent HULSFEST advanced technology evaluation of unmanned maritime vehicles for ship hull inspection missions.  This operation was completed in March, 2006 in San Diego, California at the US Navy’s SPAWAR Systems Center.

VideoRay worked in conjunction with the BlueView Technologies ProViewer multi-beam sonar for long range target identification in murky water.  The company incorporated the Desert Star AquaMap Ship Hull Inspection System to determine precise locations of the robot relative to the hull of the ship.

Highlights of the report, from the US Navy :

The VideoRay ROV system is truly 2-man portable.

— Only one person is needed to launch and recover the vehicle.

— Very fast setup of control station and navigation calibration.

— The small VideoRay ROV is very agile and quick.

— Small enough and adequately maneuverable for searching

           – The inboard side of the ship

           – The running gear portions of the ship

           – The areas around piers and pilings

           – The VideoRay system demonstrated its robustness during both trials.

See www.hulsfest.com for full information, including video and still shots of the exercise and the technology that was utilized.

VideoRay now has far more Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) in service around the world than any manufacturer, and is delivering additional ROVs at an increasing rate. Weighing just 8 pounds and starting at $5995 USD, VideoRays can be equipped with sonar, positioning systems or other accessories, and are used for underwater surveys, offshore inspections, search and recovery, homeland defense, science, fish farming and a range of applications in underwater environments. In August, the General Services Administration (GSA) awarded VideoRay a contract to supply vehicles to the US government, making it easier and faster for many agencies to acquire one.
