Exton, PA, May 14, 2004 – Captain Scott Shields, whose world-famous
dog Bear located the most victims at Ground Zero after the September
11 attacks on the Twin Towers, is hosting the second annual Marine
Safety Training in New York Harbor on May 22-23, 2004. The capabilities
of VideoRay ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) will be shown to
more than fifteen agencies including the US Coast Guard, New York
Search & Rescue, and others taking part in the event sponsored
by Shields’ Bear
Search and Rescue Foundation. Leading the
sessions are Undersheriff Dave Phillips and Rescue Squad member
Lt. Tom Crossmon from St. Louis County, Minnesota, who used a VideoRay
this past winter to locate the body of a drowned snowmobile driver.
“I have long believed that for the price and its size,
the VideoRay is the best gear on the market,” says Shields. “It
is my goal to bring VideoRays to the Tri-State area for search
and rescue missions. We are honored to have Undersheriff Phillips
and Lt. Crossmon teaching our teams; they use the VideoRay successfully
in the field every day.”
The VideoRay ROV is an 8-pound underwater submersible equipped
with a video camera. Operated by one person from land or boat,
the submersible is attached to a tether and control box to navigate
and document underwater conditions. VideoRays are in use worldwide
for search and rescue and Homeland Security initiatives.
Three VideoRays will be at the event, to be held at Pier 63 Maritime & The
Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum in the New York Harbor from 8-6pm
on Saturday, May 22 and Sunday, May 23. Media are welcome. For
more information on the event, contact Capt. Scott Shields at 732-713-6298.
