Greater Thrust Option (GTO) Upgrade
When working in currents and/or with a significant length of tether in the water, the more thrust you have available the better. VideoRay’s Greater Thrust Option (GTO) couples highly efficient, larger props with a new, custom-developed drive train to develop amazing additional thrust on your VideoRay Pro submersible without consuming more power or changing topside or submersible electronics. Due to the advanced design of the thrusters standard on Pro III and Deep Blue submersibles delivered since July, 2003, GTO thrusters can be installed in minutes. Earlier Pro models can be upgraded to the Pro III style thrusters, again without modification to the internal submersible electronics or topside electronics except for a single program chip on the controller.
VideoRays equipped with the GTO option have a greater than one to one thrust to weight ratio, and can exceed four knots of forward speed – by far the best performance available in an inspection-class ROV. This additional thrust, however, does NOT come at the expense of slow speed maneuvering. In fact, these larger props allow for even more precise positioning and maneuvering than previous thrusters.

Mini Microphone for Audio Annotation
of Video
The
audio annotation system allows operators to add an audio track
to the video captured with any rov from the VideoRay Pro line.
Now, operators can record comments topside as they capture underwater
video through
the submersible’s camera.
The audio feature was heavily requested by VideoRay customers
and is available now for $149, and is included as a standard feature
with the Pro III XE and Deep Blue XE. During underwater inspections,
operators can speak
into the
mini preamp
and microphone.
For hands-free
operation,
the microphone connects with Velcro to either the control box lid
or a shirt lapel. The audio is useful during inspections so operators
can record observations, note locations, or give instructions.
Later reviews of the video and audio recording can now relay more
information to viewers than before.
The microphone package includes a high gain super microphone;
integrated preamp which features low noise, extremely high gain
and auto level adjustment by on-board IC; and power connectors
configured for the integrated control box’s 9-pin plug. The

Short Baseline
Acoustic Navigation System
The world's smallest tracking system
Expanded Line of Desert Star Options. (details)
Underwater
work demands reliable positioning. While GPS navigation has been
adapted as a standard throughout the marine industry, GPS signals
only penetrate a few millimeters below the surface. To truly know
your position, the Desert Star Short baseline (SBL) positioning
system acoustic navigation provides an accuracy of 0.6 degrees
in 40 feet of water. You'll be a more adventurous and confident
ROV pilot because the Desert Star shows the location of the submersible
in relation to three surface mounted transducers, using the acoustical
transponder and depth gauge mounted aboard the submersible. The
location of the VideoRay is identified through simple time/distance/triangulation.
The Desert Star transponder is smaller than a soda can, and the
system can be integrated with GPS for absolute positioning. Use
in combination with a scanning sonar to know where the ROV is,
where it is going, and where to swim to targets of interest. The
system requires a laptop running Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP Operating
System.

AquaMap
Shiphull makes VideoRay a capable and efficient tool
for the inspection of ship hulls, dams and other vertical structures.
Visibility in harbors is normally poor, making a good positioning capability
critical to perform quality work. The system can use any computer scanned ship
plan. It shows the ROV against starboard and port side views and a bottom view
of the vessel. A variable width position trace is set to reflect the visibility.
Move along to ‘paint’ the hull, documenting the coverage of your
search. Return to any desired spot on the hull quickly and with confidence. Use
the annotation function to record observations. Create any number of views of
your survey for the survey report.

Extension Tethers
Reach new depths with ideal tether combinations
No
mission is impossible when you mix and match lengths and types
of the VideoRay's tether to reach an underwater destination. All
VideoRay systems come standard with 250 feet of neutrally buoyant
tether, and now you can choose from several combinations of neutrally
buoyant or negatively buoyant tether lengths to suit the job at
hand. The detachable tethers encourage easier transport and handling
as they accommodate specific depths. Modular lengths of neutrally-
and positively- buoyant tether can be mixed and matched by simply
locking in new sections. Snap on the short tether for a potable
water tank inspection. Then switch in seconds to the extended tether
for a deepwater application. Use the negatively buoyant tether
to reach operational depths, and switch to the neutrally buoyant
tether for more maneuvering. Consult with your local VideoRay dealer
for the combination that best fits your needs.

Thickness Gauge from Cygnus Instruments
Proven inside the USS Arizona battleship
Less
expensive than diving excursions to measure thickness underwater,
the Cygnus Instruments thickness gauge has been designed specifically
to be mounted onto the VideoRay Pro line and Deep Blue XE. The gauge allows the operator
to carry out thickness measurements in areas that have previously
been unfeasible using large ROVs or divers, such as inside pipelines.
The gauge uses a technique known as Multiple Echo, which allows
measurements to be taken without first removing coatings. The unit
is pressure tested to 500 m and dedicated software displays the
time, date and thickness readings on the surface. All readings
can be stored.
The Cygnus gauge was used on a VideoRay during a survey of the USS
Arizona battleship, which sank at the start of WWII in Pearl
Harbor. During explorations by the National Park Service, the
Cygnus gauge was aboard a VideoRay that traveled up to 150 feet
inside the ship, while taking readings and measuring the thickness
of the walls containing No. 6 fuel oil. For more information: www.cygnusinstruments.com .
