VIPS 2008 Call for Presentations

VIPS is the World’s largest Micro-ROV conference by far. See the overview of the 2008 conference, and the program from last year. While we expect that this year’s program will be even more advanced, and attendance will be higher, the overall structure in Galveston will be the same as last year in Key Largo.

Effective immediately, we will begin accepting proposed presentations. Proposals require presenter contact information, a title, and a 100 word abstract of your presentation. You should expect to hear from us within a week with an acceptance, regret, or suggestions on improvement of the topic and summary. Presentation slots are 40 minutes long, and presenters generally allow 5 minutes or a bit more for a question and answer period. Most presentations are in Powerpoint slide format, and many presenters insert videos as well, particularly underwater videos from their VideoRay.

While any topic involved with micro-ROV technology will be considered, we are particularly looking for presentations which involve lessons that the audience can use to improve their operating techniques or that give them ideas for new missions or uses for their VideoRay equipment.

We will accept submissions until the complete agenda is full – which we anticipate will be mid-summer or so. However, there are several reasons to submit your ideas as soon as possible:

  • Should we receive two talks that are similar in topic and content, we will accept the first submitted.
  • Should you need to “tweak” your ideas to gain acceptance, an earlier submission will give you the most time to do this.
  • As presentations are accepted, they will be assigned time slots. The best time slots will generally be assigned to the first accepted presentations, though there are several other aspects that go into time slot assignment.

Presenters can submit as many presentations as they like, but each must be totally unique and will be judged independently.

Presenters will be required to submit their final presentation materials by Monday, October 6, 2008. Failure to have the media files at VideoRay headquarters on that date will be reason for cancellation of the proposed presentation. In addition to the primary presentation and supporting files, presenters will be required to submit either comprehensive speaker notes or an audio file of their talk. All this will be distributed at the conference to registered attendees, and permission to do this is part of our presenter contract.

Presenters will be compensated by a $500 conference credit for each accepted and delivered presentation.

To propose a topic, please fill in the information below, or send an email with this information to info@videoray.com.
