Meridian 3 web-688Subsea Inspection Company Finds Several Uses for VideoRay Pro 4 ROV

VideoRay and Meridian Ocean Services, a subsea inspection company, have very similar missions – to provide efficient and effective solutions for a variety of underwater inspection and intervention tasks. Based in Newport, Rhode Island, Meridian Ocean Services was founded in 2012 by Patrick Donovan and Nat Spencer. Donovan and Spencer share a lifelong connection to the sea and more than two decades of experience in multiple maritime trade industries around the globe.

Meridian specializes in explorations, investigations and evaluations. Their services include inspections of ballast tanks, ship hulls, marine habitats, oil fields, engineering and infrastructure, as well as general subsea inspections and recovery missions. Meridian also provides technology and support for oceanographic research, salvage response, search and recovery missions, and dive teams. Meridian utilizes ROV technology to enhance, expedite and expand their underwater projects, and provide a cost-effective and safer alternative to traditional inspections.

The VideoRay Pro 4 ROV’s versatility makes it a perfect fit for Meridian’s wide variety of underwater tasks. Meridian’s Pro 4 uses advanced technology, including an imaging sonar and autonomous control. In addition to the VideoRay Pro 4, Meridian’s equipment fleet includes a side-scan sonar, and a free-swimming offshore ROV for projects in depths greater than 300m (1,000 ft). Meridan also plans to take delivery of an AUV in early 2013.

On one of their more recent missions, Meridian deployed out of Carrabelle, Florida to survey underwater locations reported by fisherman who were tearing their trawl nets. The Pro 4 investigated the targets identified by the side-scan sonar and created new bathymetric mosaics of the seafloor.
