August 9, 2016 – World’s Deepest Blue Hole Verified by VideoRay Pro 4 in South China Sea

Researchers use Remotely Operated Vehicle to explore and discover 20 species of fish

Last week researchers from Sansha Ship Course Research Institute for Coral Protection, supported by Sansha City Government in south China's island province of Hainan, unveiled new research on a previously unmeasured blue hole. Its depth, measured by the very accurate Pro 4 depth gauge, is 300.89 meters deep - surpassing the current record of 202 meters for Dean's Blue Hole on Long Island in the Bahamas. A blue hole is a roughly circular sinkhole. The name reflects the color contrast between the dark blue inside the hole compared with the light blue waters surrounding it.

This hole, traditionally known as Longdong, or "Dragon Hole," is located at 16.31 degrees north latitude and 111.46 degrees east longitude in Yongle, a major coral reef in the Xisha Islands.

Providing technical and sales support for the dive was Alvin, the managing director of long term VIdeoRay representative in China, Beijing Ocean Seeker, Ltd.
